Background
The number of different countries visited isn't my objective in travelling but the quality of the trips.
One way to improve the quality of the trips is to take a look at a list of someone else has created. The most comprehensive collection of the most precious cultural heritage sites and natural miracles of the world is UNESCO World Heritage Sites list which contains 1121 sites at the moment (2020-05-12) (reference). The list can be criticized of being politically influenced but a list like this can't be created objectively.
First time I knew I was visiting a UNESCO World Heritage Site was in Alta in June 2003 (Norway) but it was 2018-09-19 when I first time checked my personal status. It was 54/1092, so I had already visited 4.9 %!
To be honest, visiting all of them is virtually impossible (and stupid). The current rate is about 10-30 new sites per year and even if one had all the money, time and health, this couldn't be done because the permit issues, temporal close downs, weather and medical problems make it just too demanding unless you wanted to spend the rest of your life wandering inside airports and sitting in taxis. Nevertheless the list can give you ideas where to go next.
So here is the list of World Heritage Sites I've visited. It follows the list of UNESCO but I do reserve permission to modify it for my purpose in the future – if necessary.
